One of the struggles some folks have with living in Beach Towns is their lack of history. 30a is really a totally new community. In most cases, 30a is really only about 30 years old. In some cases, most communities on 30a are only 20 years old.
Not the case with Grayton Beach. Although it's not 100's of years old, Grayton Beach is a small, undisturbed village in Northwest Florida and was the first community established in the area now known as South Walton.
Located along the Gulf of Mexico between Pensacola and Panama City right in the heart of the 30a community. Although there are new homes and new retail establishments, many of the homes are original to the established fishing village many years ago.
Grayton Beach is home to a designated Blue Wave Beach and Grayton Beach State Park. The park is a 400-acre sliver of paradise featuring pristine sugar-sand beaches, a rare coastal dune lake and a wealth of nature. Its nature trail winds through a salt marsh, steep dunes and a coastal forest thick with twisted scrub oaks and magnolias.
There is really two different parts of Grayton Beach. There is the Beach area which has just a few restaurants and stores like THE RED BAR and CHIRINGO. Both fabulous places to dine. The Redbar burned to the ground a couple years ago, but has since been built up and looks as authentic as the original. Great food. Great atmosphere, etc. Chiringo also has it's own vibe and worth the visit.
If you want to journey away from the water between a half mile and a mile you can enjoy the famous AJ's restaurant. AJ's is a super cool atmosphere that's really known for a cool bar hang out. However, just up the road north a slightly east are GRACE's Pizza, Grayton Seafood, Borago, Crackings, Beach Camp Brew Pub, Stroffies, etc.
Just north of 30a in Grayton Beach are some other fabulous stores and restaurants; Chanticleer Eatery, Hurricane Oyster Bar, the new Grace's Pizza and Shakes, Nanbu Noodle bar, and Black Bear Bread company.
There are a couple t-shirt shops and stores in the same shopping center worth visiting.
It's hard to explain the Grayton Beach Vibe. Ultimately it's a very chill community. The Grayton Beach Slogan is "NICE DOGS / STRANGE PEOPLE". Grayton Beach is full of laid-back, artsy individuals passionate about their community and ensuring it maintains its unique character.
One final note. Grayton Beach has a beautiful naturally fed spring lake that feeds into the Gulf of Mexico. Western Lake is a lake where paddle boarders enjoy a calm body of water where they can enjoy their YOLO skills.
Grayton Beach is also the only community that allows cars on the Beach. However, they must have a Beach Permit. Please note: Don't be one of those individuals that tries to bring their cars on the beach. You will get stuck and it will be posted on most social media sites.
Just down the road a few miles from Grayton Beach is the Cessna Boat ramp where 30a Pontoon Rental offers luxury 150 hp tritoons as well as 150 hp double decker tritoons with water slides.
